People are beginning to believe that Cristiano Ronaldo is better than Lionel Messi? Ronaldo Is overtaking Lionel Messi?
In world football it's the most controversial and interesting debate - Cristiano Ronaldo versus Lionel Messi, who is the better player? Messi has won the prestigious Ballon d'Or award for the last four seasons running, since Ronaldo's sole victory in 2008 and it is largely regarded that Messi is the greatest player in the world currently, if not ever. But there are signs emerging that the pendulum may be swinging in the opinion of the majority. It seems that anything Ronaldo can do-which is head and shoulders above the rest of the football world- is then eclipsed by the Argentine. Ronaldo last season scored an incredible 55 goals in all competitions. Messi, 60. Ronaldo also contributed 12 assists but again Messi outshone him with 16. Being left in the shadow of Lionel Messi is something that Ronaldo has had to put up with consistently over in the last five seasons. But this campaign it has started differently. Currently, Ronaldo is ahead in the statistics with nine more goals than his rival in all competitions. Ronaldo has been sensational for his club side Real Madrid while Lionel Messi is on an incredible five-game goal draught in La Liga. The 26-year-old is trailing both Ronaldo and Diego Costa in the La Liga goalscoring table which is rare for him. And as Ronaldo continues to glow, Tuesday night breaking Messi's record of most goals in a calendar year in the Champions League with his 14th strike, many are warming to the idea that Ronaldo is in fact right now, the best player on the planet. It has long been argued that Ronaldo is the better all-round player, with more strength, aerial ability and variety in his game. Though it can be countered by the fact that it does not matter to be well-rounded as you only have to play in one position. Ronaldo has also the advantage that he has proved that he can compete in more than one division as he has been so impressive in England with Manchester United. But then again Messi has delivered in the Champions league against the top clubs and is the second all-time top scorer in the competition - with four more than 28-year-old Ronaldo.
